A Comprehensive Guide to: Spring Stripes

The stripe is a gateway pattern. In its lowest form, it's emblazoned across a long-sleeve jersey tee in some intolerable duo of colours chosen by the air quotes creative team behind Old Navy - (let's ignore my four-month stint there in '08. It was my first job! I needed the money!) But at its finest, ie. whenever Stella McCartney lays a hand on it, it cannot be bested - a gateway to easy chic.

Of all these options, I'm maddest for the cropped and tailored side-stripe trouser, which puts the finals-week tri-stripe track pant to serious shame, and is really perfected in this duo-tone trou by DSquared2 - (gold star for Canadian Fash). But then again, my great allegiance is, as ever, to the nautical stripe, which allows me to vicariously assume my preferred identity of Jackie O. 1975.
